On behalf of the Math & Computer Science Department, we are very excited to welcome rising students in Grades 9-12 to Introduction to Programming with Python through D-E 360° Summer. There are a limited number of seats available. This intensive course is designed to provide a rigorous foundation in computational thinking and Python syntax. Fred Fontaine, a member of the Upper School Mathematics and Computer Science Department at Dwight-Englewood School, will be the instructor. Reach out with any questions at fontaf@d-e.org.

Course Schedule & Format

The Scholars Program consists of intensive academic courses that cover a significant amount of material in a short window. Please note the specific dates and formats for 2026:

  • In-Person Dates: June 17 – June 18 and June 22 – June 26
  • Daily Hours: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM 

Daily Session Times

  • 10:00 AM – 11:50 AM: Programming Workshop 1 (Includes 10-minute break)
  • 11:50 AM – 12:20 PM: Lunch Break
  • 12:20 PM – 3:00 PM: Programming Workshop 2 (Includes 10-minute break)

Academic Expectations & Placement

By successful completion of this course, students will be prepared to enroll in AP Computer Science, with departmental approval.

  • Placement: For Dwight-Englewood students, this course may be used for placement purposes only with prior approval from the Mathematics Department Chair.
  • Grades & Transcripts: This is a non-graded course; however, a formal record of completion will be provided for your files.

Preparation & Materials

  1. Google Accounts: We use Google Classroom for all materials. D-E students should use their school email. Non-D-E students must have a free Google/Gmail account to access the portal.
  2. BYOD (Bring Your Own Device): This is a required BYOD course. Students must bring their own laptop (Mac or PC). All necessary software will be provided and installed during the first session.
  3. Basic Supplies: Bring a notebook, composition book, or binder for note-taking, along with pens/pencils.

Campus Logistics

  1. Location: D-E STEM Center – Room 208.
  2. Drop-off: On the connector road adjacent to the STEM building or at the top of campus in front of the Middle School/Umpleby.
  3. Pick-up (3:00 PM): Enter at 81 Lincoln Street and drive up the connector road to the Middle School pathway. Staff will be present to direct traffic. Click here for Campus Map (PDF).  
  4. Attendance: Email our Operations Team at de360info@d-e.org if your child will be late, absent, or leaving early.

Lunch & Wellness

  1. Lunch: Provided daily. Please ensure all food allergies are updated in your child’s health profile by Friday, June 12. * 
  2. Attire: Casual but school-appropriate. The STEM building is heavily climate-controlled; we highly recommend bringing a sweater or sweatshirt. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for the studios.
  3. Hydration: Please bring a refillable water bottle daily.
